I have been interested in photography since my college days. Initially, I used my camera to document and then relive my wilderness adventures into the Sierra Nevada through slideshows with all my friends. As time passed, I extended my interests to photographing family activities and into shooting special subjects like marching band fie ld shows and instrumental music concerts. I decided I wanted to take my photography to a higher level in 2014 after completing my first workshop. At that workshop, I asked myself and instructors, “why are some of my photographs better than others?” I have spent much of my time since then trying to answer that question. After retiring from the technical world in 2017, I made photography my new “job,” and dedicate most of my time to becoming a better photographer.

I shunned joining camera clubs for most of my life. But, in the summer of 2017, I attended my first camera club meeting. After that I was hooked. I have been a member of the Thousand Oaks Photo Group (TOPG) since August 2017, and I quickly joined the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4C) that same year. Initially, I thought I would specialize in landscape nature photography. But, after joining TOPG, I have expanded my areas of interest to include astro-landscape photography, photojournalism and human interest subjects. I am truly a very eclectic photographer.

In addition to my photography work, I judge at other local camera club’s competitions and I serve on the Board of Directors of the TOPG and S4C. I volunteer at the local high school, photographing band, orchestra and marching bands, and I also photograph for the National Park Service.
