Peter Scifres, PPSA, GPSA

Shaji Narayanan Although I've taken pictures - mostly on vacations - occasionally for most of my adult life, I didn't get serious about photography until my retirement was approaching in 2006-07. Then I bought a Canon 40D, joined the Thousand Oaks Photo Group, and took some classes at the UCLA Extension.

My other main hobby is hiking/backpacking and I've since focused on taking outdoor pictures while on these trips in both the Southwest, and on travels in other countries. I particularly enjoy researching how and when to get to sometimes difficult to reach outdoor locations, and of course taking the pictures when I get there. In the last few years I've done a lot of work with landscape astrophotography.

I've also enjoyed photography education and have taught at a local senior center. At the Thousand Oaks Photography Group I've served in a number of roles including president and field trips chair. I've enjoyed presenting workshops and some occasional judging at other local camera clubs. I've published two photography eBooks: "Under the Night Sky, Your Complete Guide to Landscape Astrophotography" and "Photographing Patagonia."

The S4C competitions have been a lot of fun and I enjoy entering those as well as local art shows and the Ventura County Fair. My main photography goal is to hike an/or travel to interesting outdoor locations and make hopefully beautiful and impactful images of them.

Peter earned his GPSA in 2020, QPSA in 2022, and PPSA in 2023.
